Being a Mentor…

First generation students and those from communities with low socioeconomic status frequently face more challenges than other groups of students. Mentors can help reverse negative expectations and play a significant role in creating positive outcomes for these challenged students. The student who benefits from a trusting mentor relationship is more likely to experience successful outcomes.

Through our program partners at local colleges and universities, our mentors are assigned to individual students with whom they form mentoring partnerships, build relationships, and develop mutual trust and respect. Mentoring can become a life-long learning partnership through which the student acquires personal and professional growth.
